The Indian Bollywood industry has never been in short of talents and from the past it has been witnessed that someone’s rejection turned out to be boon for someone else. Here is a list of movies which were turned out down by the King Khan of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan. But those movies became the super hit.
#1 Ek Tha Tiger
For this movie initially it was approached to Shah Rukh Khan who could be the tiger for Kabir Khan had he not refused to do the movie. The reason was nothing sort of issue relating to not liking the script but a date issue. At that time the superstar was working with Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan and he could not be able to find out time for it. And the film ultimately went to Salman Khan who played the lead role opposite to his ex-flame, Katrina Kaif. Meanwhile, Kat was also shooting for the Jab Tak Hai Jaan with SRK during that period of time. Both the movies turned out to be blockbusters after hitting the cinemas. But it was felt that SRK didn’t have regret much about his reluctance to do the film.
# 2 Idiots
Right after the films like Lagaan and Rang De Basanti which became blockbusters and were approached to SRK as the first choice but he refused with the same reason, date issue; so his loss became the Aamir’s gain. In this way Aamir Khan was also the third time lucky when 3 Idiots went to him and the movie turned out to be one of the best bollywood grosser of all time. However, he was still not regretful and just said that it was something little difficult to get the right actor for the right role after writing.
#3 Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
No one might have been able to imagine that SRK in the role of Munna Bhai! But yes, Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy had the first choice, SRK. It was supposed to be played by SRK as the first choice but eventually he had back problem and he couldn’t go for it. And then it was the actor, Sanjay Dutt who played the lead role and made the movie super hit blockbuster. It was said that Sanjay Dutt was supposed to play the role played by Jimmy Shergill as Zaheer in the movie. This movie again helped Sanjay Dutt to upgrade his career.
The refusal by Shah Rukh Khan had turned out to be a great thankfulness to Aamir Khan when approached to them for the Movie, Lagaan. It was one of the best movies of Mr. Perfectionist during his career. Ashutosh Gowarikar was going through tough period when he was not finding out the right actor for the role of Bhuvan when turned down by SRK. When Mr. Perfectionist was approached after being referred by SRK and convinced the director again was once again finding difficult to find out producer. And it was Aamir Khan who himself agreed to produce the movie and then the film became successful and blockbuster. It was the third film of Bollywood which went to be nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
#5 Kaho Na…Pyar Hai
Hrithik Roshan, the superstar must be thankful to SRK who rejected the movie, Kaho Na Pyar Hai. Initially Rakesh Roshan approached to SRK with the script but the King Khan of Bollywood didn’t get convinced and refused it. Ultimately, Rakesh Roshan himself gave the role to his own son, Hrithik Roshan with double role. This film really established the actor of his own in Bollywood and became a new heartthrob for his fans.
He has achieved the only feat to win the best Filmfare Award for the debut and also the Filmfare award for Best Actor in same film. Movie itself achieved the record of being scoring the greatest number of Awards by any Bollywood film and entered into Limca Book of Records.
#6 Jodhaa Akbar
It came in report that Ashutosh Gowarikar intended to cast Shah Rukh Khan in the Jodhaa Akbar film in order to recover the losses he had in a film called Swades. But owing to tough shooting schedule and far location made SRK reluctant to accept his proposal. Finally, the movie went to Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who both played the roles very well as Jodhaa and Akbar. Even Hrithik went on to win some of the best filmfare Award for his phenomenal performance. And both of them would have been thankful to SRK for his reluctance to the movie.
#7 Rang De Basanti
It was around six years when Shah Rukh Khan refused the Lagaan which went to Aamir Khan and he did the same thing when he again refused to do the film Rang De Basanti directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. And his refusal again became the gain of Aamir Khan who was quick enough to grab the opportunity. Later all became history after release. The movie got nomination at BAFTA Awards followed by Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category and Golden Globe Awards in addition to winning the Filmfare Award.
